Ellel Scotland
Newsletter - June 2008

Dear Reader,

The April showers have long since past and the summer arrived in May in all its beauty with both guests and team taking full advantage of the warm dry weather with trips to the beach, paddling in the rivers and walking the hills. However, we are not sure whether that was it for the year, as the rain has returned in June and the heating is back on.

The kitchen garden is coming into production resulting in the kitchen overflowing with tubs of rhubarb. We are looking forward to enjoying Margaret’s special crumbles and pies, rhubarb and ginger jam and anything else that you can do with rhubarb!

At the beginning of the year our course bookings were quite low, and we weren’t sure if some would have to be cancelled, yet we took this to the Lord, knowing that He is our Provider and this is His ministry. After months of prayer our answer came. Praise the Lord, as one week last month all of a sudden our course bookings soared and the phone was constantly ringing with enquiries. We are so encouraged that the Israel Prayer Conference has the highest number of attendees this year.

We also celebrated another type of provision when we received a furniture delivery from a family in Manchester who had attended various schools here. We received a magnificent dining room table which we have needed for sometime to provide more places on our busy schools, and a new 3 piece-suite for the drawing room which matches the décor perfectly.

We are so grateful for this and for all the encouragement , love and support both through prayer and giving, that so many of you have sacrificially given in to this precious work. Thank you and God bless you richly.

We hope you enjoy this newsletter as you continue to read on about all God is doing here at Blairmore House, Ellel Scotland. We look forward to welcoming you back at some time.

Schools

The Scottish Modular School is always a special school for the Blairmore Team as we have the opportunity to form relationships with students over a 2 year period and bear a small witness to all the good God does in each individual’s life. At the beginning of this year we have watched as our Modular A students from 2007 move onto Modular B, and as a result have welcomed a new group in for Modular A 2008. This group is the smallest we have had for a very long time but a small group has its advantages and we found it has created a good environment for discussion

God’s Tape Measure was taught by Otto and Sharon Bixler.  This was our first time running this course and we were delighted with how full the course was. It was a very powerful time of teaching and ministry. Below are just some of the testimonies:

“This course is an excellent combination of practical and spiritual pointers presented in an impacting and accessible way”

“Very good; a divine appointment”

“The teaching was profound and the key I really need in this spiritual battle. This is my first time at Ellel; I will be back!”

Sitting at the Feet of Jesus
We were glad to welcome back Johannes Facius to lead and share his life changing keys of how to really sit at the feet of Jesus. It was a wonderful two weeks, where the small group spent time in guided personal reflection, meditation and prayer, along with great fellowship and a beautiful trip to Aviemore and a ride on the stream train.

"I was greatly encouraged and built up in the word and expect this to continue that I will be built up in my inner man and reflect Him"

Reclaiming the Ground and Spiritual Warfare
Peter Horrobin and David Cross taught this very dynamic school to 14 delegates. We were all very excited to welcome 2 representatives from Rwanda sent by the Rwandan Archbishop to learn about cleansing the land and also to welcome others from abroad who work as missionary’s. The students were deeply impacted by the teaching and returned home with renewed hope and vision.

 Discovering the Treasure of Life
This course focuses on restoration, refreshment and personal revival and so during the week there was teaching but also a lot of day-trips, activities and creativity going on. Tony and Helen Irwin, who have both done the Scottish Modular School, joined us for the first time as Course Hosts, along with Val Taylor from The Grange and it was great to welcome Julie Smith who shared the teaching.

“God knows- he knows me, he made me before the foundation of the world and he is perfectly capable of mending and restoring me!”

“God loves me! (So simple- So powerful) He cares. I have learnt that he delights to see me grow in Him and grow in relationships”

Development

The Conference Hall is almost complete; with only the carpet, curtains and sound system left to put in place. The team are excited for its grand opening which should be for the 21st Century Church school and are thankful to those who have put so much work into transforming the hall from an old gym into a modern conference room. A few weeks ago while David was fixing on the radiators, a swallow flew in the hall with its mouth full of twigs and mud looking for a place to build a nest. When Malcolm came to have a look, the first few verses from Psalm 84 came to his mind.

Psalm 84 “How lovely is your dwelling-place, O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Even the sparrow has found a home and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young, a place near your altar, O Lord Almighty, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you.”

What a wonderful encouragement!

Passover

In April we celebrated Passover. Margaret and Trevor led us through the meal and it amazed every one of us how everything pointed to Jesus. There was so much symbolism in all that we did and for those of us who had never celebrated the Passover before, it was astounding. We ended the evening with singing praise songs along to Margaret’s guitar.

Free Day

On July 19th we are hosting a free day entitled Healing through the Power of Forgiveness with Frida Gashumba and Jill Southern (Director of Ellel Ministries Pierrepont). Frida miraculously survived the massacre of her family in the Rwandan genocide and being left for dead herself, Frida will be telling not only the tale of her survival but the story of how she found healing and restoration through the forgiveness of her family’s killers. Alongside Frida, Jill Southern will bring dynamic teaching on the Biblical principles of forgiveness and the power that it has to bring healing. Frida will also be available to sign her book, Frida: Chosen to Die, Destined to Live and an offering will be taken during the day towards the work of the Rwandan orphanage run by Frida and her husband, Stephen, as they continue to minister into the heart-breaking legacy of the genocide.

We are very excited at this opportunity to offer a free day to hear Frida’s testimony first hand as her story is quickly becoming well-known and it has appeared in various publications already, including the magazines Christianity Today, Woman Alive and the non-Christian magazine Look.

For any who are interested in joining us for the Free Day on July 19th  please contact the office 01466 799102 for details. We would be delighted to see you.

Team

New Team

New Team We welcomed Mathabo Ntobeng from South Africa in April. Mathabo was recommended to us by Shere House, Ellel South Africa, where she helps serve while her parents attend the Modular School. It is wonderful to have her here, especially as she already has a knowledge and heart for the ministry. She has settled in very well, and enjoying all the fun and beauty Scotland has to offer.

Goodbye

We have said Goodbye to Jade Ng who came to help us from Ellel Glyndley Manor. We were all very inspired by the testimony of her journey with God and we are really going to miss her random giggles. She will also be greatly missed in House as she was an extremely hard worker.

Erica Smith is leaving us to work at a Christian Camp in Canada. Erica has been with us for a year, first in the House Team and then in the Office as Marketing and Publicity Administrator.

Finally we say a temporary goodbye to Lindsey Hanekom as she is going on maternity leave to have her first child. Lindsey is the Centre Administrator and also teaches and ministers on several schools. The team is looking forward to having another baby to give attention to and are planning to stop by and visit them and Baby Hanekom quite often.

Team Day Out

In March we went to Landmark Forest Theme Park for our Team Day Out. We were also blessed that Otto and Sharon Bixler the Regional Directors of Ellel East were still with us after leading the course “God’s Tape Measure” and that morning we received an excellent teaching from them on “Pockets of Unbelief”. Late morning we loaded ourselves along with a very large picnic into cars and drove to the Theme Park for a day of fun and adventure in the sun. It struck us as quite incredible as we sat out in our T-shirts and sunglasses that only a week earlier we had been skiing and sledging in thick snow. After enjoying our scrumptious picnic we all split up to explore the amusements, the most popular seeming to be the Skydive Tower, I think we would all agree, that the climb to the top was harder than the actual jump itself. Other activities were the High Ropes Course, Red Squirrel Trail, Fire Tower and everyone’s all time favourite; the Water Flumes. After all this excitement we made our way back to Blairmore for the team’s favourite meal, chips and sausages. The day ended with Prayer Support Group (PSG) and it was great to welcome in some friends of Ellel who had come to pray with us. The focus of our evening was Ellel East as we listened to Otto and Sharonand watched a DVD of all God is doing in and through that centre.
