How Should We Pray? - By Jim Graham
The Lord's Prayer in Matthew chapter 6 can sometimes be so easy just to methodically recite as the words have become so familiar to many of us. As a result we often give little thought to the real depth of meaning behind what we are saying. Last month when we had Jim Graham with us at Pierrepont for a team prayer day, he spent some time helping us to look deeper at this prayer; here is a summary of his teaching.
Our Father God is our father! We have been adopted into the family of God! Thank you for adopting me into your family, help me to discover and experience what means.
Who is - not was or will be. Jehovah-Jireh; Raah; Shalom; Rophe; Tsidkenu.
In heaven - your workshop of creation reminds me that if you can create/sustain the universe, you can make sense out of my struggles.
Hallowed be your name help me to realise the kind of God you are, Holy Spirit convict me of any hindrance in my life.
Thy kingdom come - make me aware of the wonders of your Kingdom.
Thy will be done - help me never to lower the revelation of Scripture to the level of my experience.
On earth as it is in heaven help me to broker the unseen into the seen.
Give us this day our daily bread I accept your provision for me today. I surrender any concerns regarding my own well-being.
Forgive us our debts - I thank you for the roof of grace over my head, bound together with the timbers and nails of Calvary. There is nothing I can do to add to or earn your mercy.
As we also have forgiven our debtors - treat me, Father, as I treat others. Have mercy on all those who have hurt or wounded me.
Lead us not into temptation - test me, remind me that I am never free from temptation, trials, ordeals, tests.
But deliver us from the evil one - please hold my hand in case I fall.
THINE not mine IS THE KINGDOM - I now lay my plans at Your feet
THINE not mine IS THE POWER - I now come to You for strength
THINE not mine IS THE GLORY - I now give You all the credit
FOREVER Please help me to have the perspective of eternity in all I do/say
AMEN
Jim Graham will be joining us again on 31st May for a new and insightful understanding day called Thy Kingdom Come make sure you don't miss out on this day.
Quiver Profile
Age: 19
What was it that made you want to come to Quiver?
Over the summer, prior to the event God had been working though different issues with me. When I heard about Quiver I felt God telling me to come, as part of the work that he was continuing to do in me. I had been to a few Ellel events prior to coming on Quiver, but the fact that this one was just for youth between 18 and 35 really excited me.
What were your expectations?
Honestly, in the beginning I wasn't expecting that much! I thought God would meet me, and assumed that I would probably deal with a few things, but I would seriously never have guessed that it would be as powerful as it actually was; God went much deeper than I ever expected.
What did God do in your life as a result?
God really showed me that he has a unique destiny for me, one that only I can fulfil. He also worked a lot in my heart removing pain that had been there since the age of 3, as a result of my parents divorce, healing some of the things I needed to deal with. My relationship with God has grown significantly, since being on Quiver. I now know and understand that my Dad in heaven will never leave or forsake me.
If there was one thing that you could pick out from the weekend that impacted you most what would it be?
The times of fellowship and friends that I made, because although everything else was fantastic, it was just amazing to meet together, and seek God with loads of other young people from all over the country.
Would you recommend Quiver to other young people?
Yes! I would recommend it to any young person seeking to set their life apart to make a difference for God as Quiver will extend your knowledge and understanding, equipping you to live for God in this fallen world.
