Dear Reader,
People
often wonder "What do Roger and Chris actually DO when they travel off to other
countries?". That's why we're sending you a detailed description of one of our
six-day schools. Now you know what we're up to - some of the
time...
FINDING ESTONIAN
TREASURE
Last week was our
first time in Estonia,
although there was a visit by an Ellel team with Otto and Sharon Bixler more
than fifteen years ago! We two were there with three of our Ukrainian team to
teach our six-day ministry school "Answering Christ's
Call"(ACC). We had 37
students, including two from Latvia. Once again, we were thrilled and amazed by
God's goodness throughout the school.
We
have often mentioned this school in our newsletters, and we want to tell you
more about what actually happens.
"ACC" ministry school
in Tallinn, Estonia
If
you are in our region, maybe you would like a school like this for your church,
or preferably for a group of local churches? Read
on...
The aim of the
"ACC" school is to teach people
how to follow the call of Christ (Philippians 3:14) by learning "spiritual first
aid". We train what might be called "spiritual paramedics". They will be able to
deal with basic healing needs, but will also receive information about much more
serious problems. They learn how to "stabilise the patient's condition" until he
can receive help in a "hospital" with a fully trained ministry team. However, on another level, you
could say that we are TEACHING THE KINGDOM! And what does THAT
mean?
It means that we
show what happens when the Kindom of
God invades people's lives. Things happen! - people are
changed, and God is glorified.
Every day's
teaching
includes demonstration ministry
at the front, followed by students "doing it for themselves" with prayer
partners. They see straight away that "it
works"! The team are always
on hand to give help and advice. This is definitely not a conference or
just a series of seminars - it shows what happens when "the Kingdom of God is at
hand"!
"Tell me, and I
forget. Show me, and I understand. Let
me do it, and I learn."
On
the first day, we
look at the Biblical command to pray for others, our authority in Jesus to do
so, and the gift of compassion that we need. There a listening exercise in
pairs; this exercise breaks the ice and teaches compassion and the art of good
listening. The students learn how to relate to others with compassion, the basis
of all prayer ministry.
Lord of All - or
not Lord at all!
After
a look at Spiritual
Reality (what heaven and earth is really about), we move
to Spirit, Soul and
Body (what people are really about), using lively visual
aids all the time. Next, we show what it means for Jesus to be truly
Lord of every part of our life, followed by the first demonstration
ministry - the team prays for a volunteer at the front of
the class - after which students lead each other in the same "Lordship prayer".
For some, they have never prayed like this before, or else this is their first
experience of leading others in prayer - but everybody does it, and people are
changed!
Spirit,
Soul and Body - all one person!
Next
we teach about the Spiritual Tools
that
are available to those who pray for others; then the team chooses someone for
demonstration ministry (based on Words of Knowledge), and students see in
practice how the various tools are used in real prayers. The day ends with
students in small groups praying for those who responded to the other words of
knowledge, using those same tools, with the team on hand to help. Everybody takes part, and people
are changed.
Spiritual
detectives and spiritual advocates!
On
Day 2, we start by
looking at God's commandments and how obeying or breaking these commandments
brings various Spiritual Laws into
operation (such as the law of Sowing and Reaping). We show how prayer ministers
are first of all like spiritual detectives
(something has gone wrong, but how and why?) and then like spiritual
advocates as we present our client before the Judge. We
teach about the amazing power of Confession, Repentance and Forgiveness which
remove the rights of our accuser. As we teach through the rest of the week,
there is a constant question for our students - "What needs to happen now?",
with an answer in chorus from the whole class: "CONFESSION, REPENTANCE AND
FORGIVENESS!".
We then teach about
the Holy Spirit in
the life of a believer, and move into a time of general ministry where we invite
the Holy Spirit to come and do whatever He wants. This is always a powerful
time. For some students, it is their first experience of baptism in the Holy
Spirit. He often gives prophetic words to team members, and all kinds of
healing happen as well.God is
good!
An amazing
eye-opener
Day
3 is a very practical day. We teach the
various spiritual
gifts that God gives to all believers as and when
necessary. The rest of the day is taken up with practical workshops on Prophecy and on
Words of Knowledge. Every student finds that these gifts
are available to every one of us, and has the opportunity to use these gifts
under the careful guidance of the Ellel team. This session is an amazing eye-opener for many
people, who thought that these spiritual gifts were
reserved for "super-Christians", but it is hard to imagine any
prayer ministry situation where these gifts are not
used.
Day
4 teaches the Power of Words,
Blessings and Curses, Inner Healing and Godly Emotions.
We use a wide variety of entertaining sketches, visual aids and demonstrations
for each of these topics. There is demonstration ministry to
show how the power of ungodly pronouncements and inner vows can be removed, how
rejection can be healed, and how giving and receiving forgiveness leads to all
kinds of healing. At the end of the day there is general ministry from the front
for emotional healing and the Godly release of emotions. Wonderful and powerful things
happen during this
time.
In
Day 5 we
see how to find release from the effects of Generational Iniquity and of Ungodly Soul
Ties, and then look at the whole area of Godly Sex and
Sexuality. Again, we use a wide variety of lively
teaching aids. The "Soul-Tie Wedding" is always a powerful illustration of how
to find various kinds of healing; if you haven't ever seen it, you've missed
something! For each section of teaching there is demonstration ministry at the
front, where God confirms that it's all true as His Kingdom
touches people's lives.
The
students spend the whole final session of Day 5 with their prayer partners,
praying through the various things that have been taught previously, as God
leads. There are examples of prayers in their notes. Again, the team is always
on hand to help where needed. Once again, things happen, and God is
glorified!
Removing the rights
of the enemy
The
final day, Day 6, starts with a
summary of how all that has been taught so far fits into our Christian walk and
also into the process of prayer ministry. Then we move on to the topic of angels, demons, and
deliverance ministry. Our aim is to show how deliverance
ministry is just a small part of the ministry of healing, and how we can remove
Satan's rights so that deliverance takes place quickly and easily. We leave time
for questions (of which there are usually many) about occult practices and
alternative medicines.
Putting it all
together
In the final
afternoon we look briefly at
the practicalities of prayer ministry in a local church setting, and then go to
our final activity - Case Studies in groups of
three. We do this by role-play. One student (who has a sheet of private
information) plays the role of a counsellee, while the other two first ask
questions to find out about the counsellee's "problem", and then work out a
possible ministry plan. The exercise is repeated one or two times. This way,
students can see how the whole course fits together and can be used in real
counselling situations. Now it's up to them!
Transformation is in their
hands!
